Kerry: "grave concerns" if Russia strikes areas where no IS presence

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says the United States is prepared to welcome Russian military action in Syria, as long as it is directed against the Islamic State group and al-Qaida affiliates.
Kerry spoke as Russia launched its first airstrikes in Syria targeting what it said were Islamic State positions.
But U.S. officials and others cast doubt on that claim, saying the Russians appeared to be attacking opposition groups fighting Syrian government forces.

GEORGIA EXECUTES FIRST WOMAN IN 70 YEARS

The US state of Georgia has executed a woman for the first time in 70 years.

Kelly Gissendaner was put to death despite numerous calls for clemency, including from Pope Francis.

The 47 year-old planned the murder of her husband in 1997.

Her former lover, who actually killed her husband, was given a life sentence in prison after co-operating with the investigation.

Kelly Gissendaner was the only woman on Georgia's death row.

And officials announced the execution after a series of last-ditch attempts to block it failed.
