Pilot Ejects from Passenger Spaceship

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the crash of a suborbital passenger spaceship  over the Mohave desert in California.

Officials say the co-pilot of the spaceship was killed in the crash, while the pilot, who ejected, was seriously injured.

UN maintains no scientific basis for strict Ebola quarantine measures

The United Nations is maintaining that there is no scientific basis to restrict travel of health workers returning from treating Ebola patients in West Africa, or put them under strict quarantine unless they present with symptoms.

Another setback for US commercial spaceflight

The US commercial space flight industry has suffered another setback.

A manned spacecraft, operated by Virgin Galactic, has crashed in California's Mojave Desert, reportedly killing one of its two pilots.

It comes just days after a cargo rocket destined for the International Space Station exploded on lift-off from Virginia.

Russia’s central bank raises its key interest rate from 8% to 9.5%

Russia's central bank has raised its key interest rate from 8% to 9.5% to try and tackle inflation.

US troops returning from Ebola-affected areas face quarantine

American troops helping to tackle the Ebola crisis in West Africa will be quarantined on their return.

It means that US military personnel will be subjected to a more restrictive regime than civilian health workers.

The decision, now approved by US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel, comes amidst an ongoing debate about how to deal with those returning from Ebola-affected areas.
