UN Security Council to vote Saturday on backing Syria ceasefire deal

In the final hours of 2016, the UN Security Council will meet on an ambitious but shaky ceasefire in Syria, and decide whether it will endorse the agreement brokered by Russia and Turkey.


Russia is seeking the UN's backing for a deal that many hope might be a turning point in the six-year conflict, but the ceasefire has already been pockmarked by fresh clashes.

Russian UN ambassador lashes out at US for closing country retreats in MD, NY.

Russians holidaying at two American country retreats in Centreville, Maryland and Long Island, New York vacated the premises on Friday, per order from the Obama administration. 


The vacationers had until noon to leave the Russian-owned sites that the US government shuttered, citing links to spying. 


Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin had strong words to say about the impact these closures are having on Russian families and children.

Trump praises "very smart" Putin

America's incoming president Donald Trump is praising Vladimir Putin's decision to hold off any tit-for-tat retaliation, in response to America's expulsion of Russian diplomats.

Charleston Church Shooter To Face New Competency Hearing

DEBBIE REYNOLDS DEAD AT 84

US actress Debbie Reynolds has died at the age of 84.

She'd been rushed to hospital with a suspected stroke, a day after the death of her daughter Carrie Fisher.

Debbie Reynolds starred in the 1952 musical Singin' in the Rain and was leading lady in a series of Hollywood hits in the 1950s and 60s.

In 2010 she spoke of being a strict mother to Carrie Fisher.

Polling Shows Support For EU Remains High

Germany probes possible truck attack accomplice

Germany's federal prosecutor will decide Thursday whether to arrest a man who has been detained over a possible connection to last week's deadly truck attack.

His number was found saved in the phone of the man who drove the truck into a crowded Christmas market, killing twelve people.

Hollywood star Debbie Reynolds who rose to stardom in the 1952
Hollywood classic film "Singin' in the Rain" and quickly became a
staple in the entertainment industry died Wednesday as a result of a
stroke. The news comes just one day after Reynolds 60-year-old
daughter Carrier Fisher, a Hollywood icon herself, passed away
unexpectedly.

Obama Creates National Monuments in Nevada, Utah

US President Obama protected two massive areas in the American West
Wednesday, including a patch in southern Utah that has been at the
center of a contentious battle over land protections for years. The
areas now protected from development include the Gold Butte National
Monument in Nevada and the Bears Ears National Monument in Utah.

Debbie Reynolds hospitalized - reports

Just one day after her daughter Carrie Fisher died, reports out of Los Angeles say Debbie Reynolds, her actress mother has been hospitalized.

Debbie Reynolds, age 84, has been a star in Hollywood for more than six decades, including her iconic role in the classic American film, 'Singing in the Rain.'

Trump criticizes United Nations

Donald Trump is saying the United Nations is a waste of money when it doesn't work.

He spoke to reporters after a long day of meetings with people who may or may not join his administration.

The president elect has also urged Israel to stay strong, that change is coming January 20, following a strongly critical speech by Secretary of State John Kerry and the UN resolution on Israeli settlement policy.

Donald Trump did say the United Nations is full of potential.

Takata expected to pay 1bn in US air bag settlement

Japanese auto parts maker Takata will pay nearly one billion dollars to settle allegations of criminal wrongdoing relating to its faulty air bags in a suit brought about by the US Department of Justice, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Takata is expected to plead guilty to criminal misconduct as part of the settlement.
