Arkansas legislature passes controversial “religious freedom” bill

Both houses of the legislature in the U.S. state of Arkansas have passed a so-called "religious freedom" bill that critics say will allow businesses to discriminate against homosexuals.

This comes as the state of Indiana has come under fire for a similar bill it passed last week.

In-flight footage of Germanwings air disaster 'found in wreckage'

In-flight footage of the last seconds of the deadly Germanwings air crash in the French Alps has reportedly been found among the wreckage.

It comes as Lufthansa revealed that the co-pilot accused of crashing the plane had told officials about experiencing an "episode of severe depression".

Andreas Lubitz informed instructors of his illness in 2009.

149 passengers and crew died when the German co-pilot flew the Airbus A320 into the French Alps.

U.S. President Barack Obama has lifted an arms freeze against Egypt, in an effort to boost Cairo's ability to combat the extremist threat in the region.

Iran nuclear talks to continue past deadline

Nuclear talks with Iran will continue in Lausanne on Wednesday, after the US said "sufficient progress" had been made to justify breaking a March 31st deadline.


US Secretary of State John Kerry is staying in the Swiss city although his spokeswoman said there are still difficult issues to resolve.

US: 'Iran Talks Extended Until Wednesday'


US officials say enough progress has been made at talks in Switzerland on an Iran nuclear deal to extend them until Wednesday, past the original self imposed deadline of midnight on Tuesday. 

Foreign ministers from six world powers, plus Iran, are discussing how to scale back Tehran's nuclear programme, in return for an easing and eventual lifting of international sanctions.

Russia announces import ban relief for Greece, Cyprus

Nigeria's Buhari pulls ahead in election

Nigeria's main opposition challenger,  former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari has a lead over incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan after more than half of Nigeria's 36 states have declared following Saturday's elections. 

General Buhari's All Progressives Congress is ahead by around two million votes.    A victory for General Buhari would make President Jonathan, who heads the People's Democratic Party, the first incumbent to lose an election in Nigeria.

More than 800 people were killed in violence that followed a previous election in 2011 between the two men.  

Election monitors have expressed concern over voter irregularities.   Hannah Roberts is deputy chief observer for the European Union.

Downed MH17 Ukraine investigators appeal for Russian missile system witnesses

The international team investigating the downing of Malaysia airlines flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine last July has appealed for witnesses who saw a Russian made missile launcher in the area.

Silk Road Undercover Agents to Face Fraud Charges

Two former United States federal agents will face fraud charges related to their undercover investigation of the black market website for drug dealing known as Silk Road.

Thousands of vendors reportedly used Silk Road from January 2011 through October 2013 to sell hundreds of kilograms of illegal drugs and other illicit goods to more than 100,000 buyers.

Obama to visit Kenya for first trip to father’s homeland since taking office

President Obama will visit Kenya this summer for his first trip to his father's homeland since taking office.

He will attend the annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit in July, the first time the six-year-old forum will be held in sub-Saharan Africa.
