President Trump refuses to rule out military action against North Korea

US President Donald Trump refused to confirm or deny that the possibility of military operations against North Korea are still on the table

In an interview with the CBS News program "Face the Nation" - just hours after the American president denounced mainstream media as fake during a campaign-style rally in Pennsylvania - Donald Trump also had some praise for Kim Jong Un

EU leaders agree guidelines for Brexit

US State of Arkansas executes 4th prisoner in a week

stronger in its opposition to North Korea's nuclear program.

WOMAN SHOT IN TERROR RAIDS IN LONDON

A woman's been shot in an anti-terror raid in London.

The woman in her 20s is now in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Six people were arrested in total after the raid in north-west London and a related operation in Kent in south east England.

White House blames Obama administration over Flynn scandal

The White House is defending itself against questions over whether it did proper background checks on disgraced former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

The Pentagon has announced an investigation into whether Mr Flynn, a retired military officer, broke the law by receiving money from Russia.

This follows other investigations by Congress into the payments.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer said it was appropriate for the Defense Department to investigate the matter, but he blamed the former Obama administration for giving Mr Flynn a security clearance that the incoming adminisatration relied upon.

Mr Flynn has reportedly offered to testify about other Trump administration dealings with Russia in exchange for immunity, but this offer is yet to be accepted.




US calls for UN Security Council pressure to stop Russia's backing of Syrian government

The US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley lashed out at Russia in the latest Security Council session on Syria. 


As the civilian casualty count climbs and the humanitarian situation deteriorates, the US says members must put more pressure on Russia to stop covering up for the Syrian regime.

US investigation into national security compromise from imports

The US government has launched an investigation into whether metal
imports could compromise national security.

The Trump administration says aluminium imports from China and
elsewhere could undermine the USA's efforts to build military
equipment.

Russia and Japan urge North Korea to avoid provocative behaviour

Russia and Japan are calling on North Korea and other countries to refrain from any action that could exacerbate tensions on the Korean Peninsula.  Japan's Shinzo Abe held talks with Russia's Vladimir Putin on issues such Pyongyang's nuclear programme, economic cooperation and the territorial dispute between the two countries. US urges Venezuela to release detained American citizen


The US government is urging Venezuela to release an American citizen currently being held in the country.

Joshua Holt is in his mid-20s and was detained on weapons charges in June last year.
