White House blames Obama administration over Flynn scandal

The White House is defending itself against questions over whether it did proper background checks on disgraced former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

The Pentagon has announced an investigation into whether Mr Flynn, a retired military officer, broke the law by receiving money from Russia.

This follows other investigations by Congress into the payments.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer said it was appropriate for the Defense Department to investigate the matter, but he blamed the former Obama administration for giving Mr Flynn a security clearance that the incoming adminisatration relied upon.
