Maryland Governor warned bridge collapse will impact national economy

The Governor of Maryland has warned the Baltimore bridge collapse won't just affect the local economy but that it will have a major impact on the national economy.

The Port of Baltimore has been closed since Tuesday when a cargo ship hit the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which collapsed into the river.

Cleanup effort begins in Baltimore

A major cleanup effort is underway in the US city of Baltimore, where crews are beginning to clear up the wreckage left by a collapsed bridge earlier this week.


A cargo ship collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge on Tuesday - it remains in the middle of the Patapsco River, bringing shipping traffic to a standstill.


Officials say they are working "full speed" to reopen the vital shipping channel.

Yen hits low against USD
