US government gives Maryland $60 million as 'down payment' to replace bridge

The US government has approved an initial $60 million in emergency funds for the state of Maryland to clear debris and start rebuilding the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which was destroyed by a large container ship.

Federal officials have reportedly said that the project could cost as much as 2 billion dollars.
