NATO monitors 'unusual' spike in Russian warplane activity

NATO has been tracking Russian warplanes over the Atlantic, Black Sea and Baltic, in what the alliance says is an unusual spike in activity not seen by Russia's military in recent years.


Though a spokesman stressed their had been no violation of NATO airspace, the flights come at a time of heightened tension between Russia and the West.
