Kerry: "grave concerns" if Russia strikes areas where no IS presence

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says the United States is prepared to welcome Russian military action in Syria, as long as it is directed against the Islamic State group and al-Qaida affiliates.
Kerry spoke as Russia launched its first airstrikes in Syria targeting what it said were Islamic State positions.
But U.S. officials and others cast doubt on that claim, saying the Russians appeared to be attacking opposition groups fighting Syrian government forces.
Speaking at the U.N. Security Council on Wednesday, John Kerry said that the U.S. would be deeply concerned if Russia targetted other groups.
