Ukraine: Kiev and separatists accuse one another of "jeapordizing peace process"

Separatist leaders in Eastern Ukraine have accused Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko of "causing serious damage" to the peace process by suspending a law which gives separatist regions a "special status".

But the Ukrainian President has said he had no choice but to ask parliament to suspend the law, after rebels in the self-proclaimed peoples' republics of Donetsk and Luhansk carried out elections which "jeopardized the peace process".

Mr Poroshenko has now deployed troops to key cities in the east in case of a new separatist offensive.

REPUBLICANS HAND OBAMA TWO 'LAME DUCK' YEARS

The US Republican Party has won control of the Senate, leaving Barack Obama facing a potential two years of so-called 'lame duck' presidency.

Republicans took a series of Senate seats in mid-term elections, and will now control the upper and lower houses of Congress.

They have campaigned amid voter dissatisfaction with the President.

But turnout was low, and polls also show low ratings for Republican politicians in Washington.

Dr James D. Boys, a transatlantic relations expert, believes when President Obama's Democrats had control in Washington, they should have built better bipartisan relationships.

Republican hopes high as early gains point to GOP Senate control

The results of the US mid-terms elections are pouring in with the Republican party very much set to make gains.

The ballot, the most expensive mid-term campaign in US history, is widely predicted to see the GOP wrest control of the US senate, with many pointing the blame at President Obama's low approval rating.

However, the White House insists Americans are voting on the merits of individual candidates, not on their perceptions of the President himself.
