Republican midterm victory bad news for Obama

Republicans have seized control of the US senate from Democrats in Tuesday's midterm elections, gains seats in at least seven states.

Final votes are still being counted, but it's clear that the Republican party has won more seats than it needs to have a majority in the senate.

Barack Obama will now face Republican majorities in both the Senate and the House of Representatives for his final two years in office.
