King Charles pays tribute to his late mother Queen Elizabeth II in speech

King Charles III has given his first address as sovereign, after the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II. 


Britain's longest-serving monarch died peacefully at Balmoral Castle on Thursday at the age of 96, after 70 years on the throne. 


In a speech to the nation from Buckingham Palace, the King paid tribute to her memory and honoured her life of service.

King Charles also confirmed his eldest son William will become Prince of Wales, and succeed him as Duke of Cornwall, and as heir. He expressed his love for Prince Harry, and the Duke of Sussex's wife Meghan.


British embassy in USA welcomes condolences messages

The British embassy in Washington DC has opened its doors to allow members of the public to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Thursday, aged 96. 


More than a hundred bunches of flowers have been laid outside the building, around a large coloured stone depiction of the Union flag.
