US denies knowledge of IS terror plot on New York, Paris underground

US officials say they have seen "no evidence" to support  claims  by the Iraqi Prime Minister that foreign-born Islamic State militants are plotting an imminent attack on the underground systems in New York and Paris.

The charge relates to the 2012 libel trial in london in which mr cairns won damages from lalit modi, the former indian premier league boss, over match-fixing allegations.

A conviction for perjury can carry a lengthy prison sentence in the UK.

Iranian President Rouhani speaks at U.N., blames rise of extremism on Western policy

The Iraqi Prime Minister claims that his country's intelligence agencies have uncovered a plot to attack underground systems in New York and Paris.

He was speaking in New York where he's attending the UN General Assembly.

Haider al-Abadi says foreign fighters in the Islamic State militant group have been planning an attack which could take place 'imminently'.

However, US officials say they had seen no evidence of such a threat before Mr al-Abadi's comments.

US urges action on Ebola

The World Health Organization is reporting nearly 3,000 have died from Ebola and there are nearly 6500 confirmed cases.

The rapid spread of the epidemic - which may infect more than 20,000 in the next month in Africa - was the reason for a special session at the United Nations General Assembly on the global response.

US believes it successfully destroyed ISIL oil refineries

U.S. military officials believe they have successfully destroyed mobile oil refineries used by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in the latest round of airstrikes against positions inside Syria.

Its estimated the Islamic militants make as much as $2 million per day on petroleum products refined at these locations.

U.S. Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby confirmed the airstrikes around Deir Ezzor.

US Strikes IS-controlled Oil Refineries

US Central Command says American aircraft, alongside those from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, have struck Islamic State targets in Syria including 12 oil refineries.

The Pentagon says the refineries generated up to 2 million dollars a day in revenue for the militants.

Sierra Leone quarantines 1.2million people due to ebola

INTRO:  In the largest lockdown so far against the ebola virus in West Africa, Sierra Leone has ordered the immediate quarantine of almost one-point-two million people. Nigerian army kills senior Boko Haram commander

INTRO:  Nigerian military officials have confirmed the death of one of the most senior militant leaders of the extremist Boko Haram group. Initial reports indicated the man shot dead in a skirmish in north eastern Nigeria may have been the terrorist group's leader Shekau Abubakar. LONDON POLICE: CHRIS CAIRNS NOT CHARGED YET

Police in London say that contrary to reports in the New Zealand media, Chris Cairns has not yet been charged with perverting the course of justice.

It had been reported the 44 year-old had been charged over the 2012 defamation case in which Mr Cairns was awarded damages against Lalit Modi, the former boss of the Indian Premier League. 

Mr Modi had accused him of match-fixing.
