Putin's daughters and others sanctioned by US

The two adult daughters of Russian President Vladimir Putin are now being sanctioned over the war in Ukraine.


The announcement was made by the Biden administration today….part of a raft of new measures aimed at choking off the Russian economy and the ability of Kremlin insiders to access their wealth.


Also today, the Department of Justice sanctioned a leading Russian oligarch and announced it has disrupted a Russian-controlled malware network that was poised to attack western computer systems.

And he also announced that the Department of Justice is now probing war crimes allegedly committed by Russian forces in Ukraine.


The evidence continues to mount:  a Ukrainian government minister today claimed Russia is using mobile crematoria to dispose of bodies in the besieged Black Sea port of Mariupol.


Ukraine's deputy prime minister has urged people living in the eastern region of the country to leave while they can….amid fears that the Russians are now planning large scale attacks around the disputed cities of Donetsk and Luhansk.


NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is hosting a 2-day summit of foreign ministers in Brussels.

UN General Assembly set to vote on Russian expulsion from UN Human Rights Council

Oklahoma passes a near total ban on abortion

Oklahoma lawmakers have passed a bill banning nearly all abortions -  with massive fines and long prison sentences for violators.

Tax increase introduced for millions of UK workers


Millions of workers in the UK are being hit with a controversial tax rise.

Last year, the government announced what's known as "National Insurance contributions" will increase by 1.25% to pay for a social care package.

More British Airways flights cancelled amid travel 'chaos'

Flights continue to be cancelled in the UK due to staff shortages, with many employees off work with Covid-19.

NATO foreign ministers meet over war in Ukraine

NATO foreign ministers are meeting in Brussels for two days of talks on the alliance's response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

NI RISE KICKS IN FOR UK WORKERS

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is defending a National Insurance rise that kicks in on Wednesday, saying it's "necessary and fair".

Zelensky challenges UN to step up, or shut down

President Vololdymyr Zelensky has compared the atrocities committed by Russian forces in Ukraine to the humanitarian abuses perpetrated by the terrorist group Islamic State.


In an address to the United Nations Security Council he challenged the world body to reform itself, saying if it cannot guarantee peace in countries like Ukraine it might as well shut down.


He offered to host a conference in Kyiv to determine new architecture for the UN, saying the agreement struck in San Francisco in 1945 has now outlived its usefulness.


He spoke by video-link from Kyiv and through an interpreter.

EU to cut Russian coal imports under new sanctions plans

The European Commission has announced proposals for a fifth package of sanctions against Moscow in response to the war in Ukraine.

UK professor of Human Rights says prosecuting those connected to war crimes in Ukraine will be tough

Russia has been accused of committing multiple war crimes during its invasion of Ukraine.


The Kremlin has continued to deny committing any war crimes in Ukraine.


The scenes pictured in the recaptured town of Bucha, just outside of Kyiv, have only amplified calls for Russian forces to be held to account.


But Helen Duffy, professor of Human Rights at the University of Leiden says prosecuting individuals will be difficult.
