WH: Actions of Philippine President 'at odds with shared values'

The US and the Philippines launched their annual joint military drills on Tuesday under a cloud of uncertainty.

Bilateral ties between the allies have been strained by a number of recent inflammatory remarks made by Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.

The firebrand leader has threatened to end future military drills between the longstanding allies as well as aiming personal, verbal attacks towards President Obama.

Burundi Rejects UN Investigation on Human Rights Violations

INTRO:
The government of Burundi has rejected a United Nations plan to investigate human rights abuses in the country with officials calling the investigation "biased".

This follows a UN human rights council report released in September, which had identified a list of suspects in the murder and torture of government opponents.

Syria talks move to Berlin

Senior officials from the United States and several European allies are set to meet in Berlin on Wednesday to discuss the conflict in Syria.

Earlier in the weeks the U.S. broke off ceasefire talks with Russia, who is supporting the Syrian government in the civil war.

Migrant rescue operations in the Mediterranean say they saved 6000 people in a single day
