UK U-TURN ON AI WEIWEI VISA

Chinese artist Ai Weiwei will now be issued a full six month visa by the UK, having previously been refused one on the grounds he had lied about a criminal conviction.

The U-turn came after the Home Office began investigating the controversial decision to only allow AI Weiwei into the UK for 20 days.

The dissident Chinese artist wants to be in London for a major solo exhibition of his work in September at the Royal Academy of Arts.

He was detained in China for 81 days in 2011 but without being convicted of a crime.

UK correspondent Olly Barratt says it's been an embarrassing episode for UK officials.

AUSTRALIA: DEBRIS 'LIKELY' FROM MH370

Australian officials say it is likely that debris found on Reunion island in the Indian Ocean is from missing flight MH370.

The wing part found is thought to be from a Boeing 777.

The Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777 flight MH370 disappeared in March 2014 en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board.

Parts of the wing found on Reunion are being taken to France for identification.

If it does turn out to be from MH370, it could provide crucial clues as to how and where the plane came down.

Australia is still leading the hunt for the aircraft, off its west coast.

Dr Simon Boxall, an oceanographer from the University of Southampton, says a find on Reunion would be consistent with current thinking about where MH370 crashed.

UK CONSIDERS WHERE TO PUT 6000 PARKED LORRIES

The UK is considering making Ministry of Defence land available to ease traffic problems in southern England caused by the migrant crisis in northern France.

There are 6000 lorries parked on the UK's M20 motorway, with the backlog growing as migrants continue to attempt to breach the Channel Tunnel between France and England.

The government is now looking at whether some of those lorries could be moved to other sites, until the crisis eases.
