Passport request for NHS treatment

Patients receiving treatment on Britain's national health service could soon have to show their passport under new rules...

The Department of Health says immigration documents may be requested in cases which raise questions over patient eligibility.

Far-right party wins first full seat in the Hungarian parliament

Hungary's far-right Jobbik party has taken its first ever seat in parliament following a by-election.

The party is considered to be one of the most extreme right wing groups within the European Union and is gaining popularity in Hungary.

6000 European fighters believed to be in Syria

More than 6000 European jihadists are believed to be fighting in Syria.

Those are the latest figures according to the EU's Justice Commissioner Vera Jouriva who says prevention measures must be stepped up to stop groups like Islamic state from attracting young people to their cause.

VAN SALES BOOM IN UK

Britain is seeing a boom in van sales - as a result of the growth in online shopping - according to new figures.

The latest numbers suggest there are now 4.4 million vans and trucks on the UK's roads, delivering 81% of goods and moving 3000 tonnes of merchandise every minute.

Danny Cox from stockbrokers Hargreaves Lansdown says the figures for new van sales are startling.

UK LABOUR PARTY LAUNCHES MANIFESTO

Britain's opposition Labour Party is launching its manifesto ahead of a UK general election on May 7th.

Labour is promising all election promises will be fully funded and won't require any extra borrowing which would harm efforts to cut the UK's budget deficit.

The Conservative Party says Labour's spending plans lack clarity and that it can't be trusted with the economy.

Polls continue to show the two parties neck and neck in the polls.

Estonian President calls for permanent NATO force to ward off Russian threat

Estonian President Toomas Ilves has called for a permanent NATO force to be stationed in the country to counter the threat of invasion from Russia.


He told the UK's Daily Telegraph newspaper that Estonia is concerned about Russian military flights and exercises in the area and Moscow's belligerent rhetoric.

Nairobi student killed as Kenya blast creates panic

TAX TAKES CENTRE STAGE IN UK ELECTION

Tax cuts are moving to the centre of the UK's general election campaign with the major parties preparing to unveil their manifestos.

The coalition-leading Conservative Party says it wants to slash inheritance tax in the UK - while opposition Labour says it shows Conservative priorities are skewed towards the richest.

Castro-Obama meet dominates Americas summit

The White House says President Obama talked by phone with Cuban President Raul Castro earlier this week.
