100 Islamic State fighters are thought to have been killed in air strikes in northern Iraq following the discovery of a network of underground bunkers.

Australian Defence chiefs say one of their planes spotted the concealed caves and tunnels close to the city of Kirkuk, which is currently controlled by Kurdish forces.

Multi-national air strikes involving 20 aircraft, dozens of targets and a ground operation by Kurdish Peshmerga troops then followed.

Cameron says lessons will be learnt after murder of soldier in street by extremists

A report has found the murder of British soldier Lee Rigby in a street in London could not have been prevented by security agencies given the intelligence at the time...

However the 18-month inquiry by a panel of lawmakers found that had the domestic intelligence agency MI5 been aware of an online exchange involving one of the killers, Mr Rigby's death may have been prevented.

Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale were given a whole life term and a minimum of 45 years in jail respectively for the brutal attack on the 25-year-old in May 2013.   In a random attack, they ran Mr Rigby over with a car before stabbing him and attempting to decapitate him in front of members of the public.
