UK Parliamentary Committee Says Collapse of China Spying Case Due To ‘Systemic Failures’

A UK Parliamentary enquiry has found "systemic failures" led to the collapse of the case against two men accused of spying for China.

The men, who maintained their innocence, had been charged with offences under the Official Secrets Act before the charges were unexpectedly dropped just weeks before the trial was due to take place. The prosecution alleged they were forced to do so when evidence could not be obtained from the government designating China a national security threat.

The committee of lawmakers labelled it as "shambolic" mismanagement, and warned that failures could be repeated without major reforms.
