US URGES GAZA CEASEFIRE

US vice president Kamala Harris has called for an "immediate ceasefire" in Gaza to bring an end to "immense suffering" in the territory.

International mediators are in the Egyptian capital Cairo for talks.

Truce negotiations have reportedly stalled because Hamas has refused to supply a list of hostages who are still alive.

Former Middle East policy advisor in the US Jasmine El-Gamal says talks are complicated.

S Korea govt 'prepared' to pursue action against striking doctors

South Korea is beginning on-site investigations at hospitals to determine what action to take against doctor’s staging a mass walkout over pay and conditions. 

Tens of thousands of doctors protested in Seoul on Sunday in solidarity with about 9000 trainees who have resigned over the past two weeks, despite government threats of legal action.

Harris Gantz due to discuss Gaza ceasefire in Washington

The Vice President of the United States is due to meet with a member of Israel's war cabinet in Washington later today (on Monday) to discuss how to get humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Kamala Harris and Benny Gantz are also expected to talk about the need for a temporary ceasefire.

According to Gantz's office he will also meet US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

U.S. planning airdrop into Gaza to help get people humanitarian aid

President Joe Biden said on Friday the U.S. will airdrop aid into Gaza to help ease the humanitarian suffering of people there.
The timing of the airdrops has not been made public but it could be within a few days.
It comes as plans for a ceasefire deal between Israel- Hamas look less likely anytime soon.

Biden approves funding to prevent govt shutdown

US President Joe Biden has signed a bill that prevents a partial

Russia says it is ready to return POW bodies from plane crash to Ukraine

According to Russia's state-run RIA news agency, Moscow is ready to hand over bodies from a military plane crash which took place in January, to Ukraine. Russia had accused Ukraine of shooting down the Ilyushin Il-76 plane allegedly carrying Ukrainian prisoners of war en route to a prisoner swap.

Death toll in Gaza reach the 30 thousand mark

The death toll in the Israel-Hamas war has now risen to 30 thousand
according to Palestinian health officials.
More than 100 people were killed on Thursday morning after Israeli
troops reportedly opened fire as people pulled flour and canned goods
off of delivery trucks.
In describing the latest figures, the UN's Humanitarian Chief, Martin
Griffiths said, "life is draining out of Gaza at terrifying speed".
