NEU Teaching Union Accepts Pay Offer, Avoiding Autumn Term Strikes In England

The UK's largest Teaching Union has called off further strikes in England for the Autumn term, having accepted the government's pay offer.


Strikes by teachers of the National Education Union (NEU) in England have forced many schools to close on eight days since February, and had passed a ballot in favour of more strikes before accepting the offer.

Fan hits rapper Cardi B with water during show

US rapper Cardi B has become the latest celebrity to be hit by an object during a performance.


Fan footage shows an audience member throwing water over the musician in Las Vegas.


In response, Cardi B threw her microphone at the suspected perpetrator.

Trump aide in court, charged in classified docs case

An aide to Donald Trump is making his first appearance in federal court on Monday where he faces charges of helping the former US President hide classified documents.


Carlos De Oliveira, the property manager of Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, is accused by prosecutors of trying to delete security camera footage and lying to investigators.

UK To Increase North Sea Oil And Gas Extraction

There's set to be a major expansion of oil and gas extraction from the North Sea. 


The UK government will issue at least 100 new licences for drilling to take place off the coast of Scotland.


Funding has also been announced for a massive new carbon capture project. The idea is to capture carbon dioxide emissions and then pump them into empty old oil and gas reservoirs in the North Sea.


The news has been greeted with anger by environmental groups, who have accused the UK government of greenwashing - and want more money to be spent on renewable energy generation. 


Malcolm Grimston, an energy policy research fellow at Imperial College London, has said the plan raises "a real dilemma":

France concern for citizens in Niger as security situation worsens

France is closely monitoring the security situation in Niger following the overthrow of the president by the army.

Over the weekend there were protests outside the French embassy in the capital, Niamey, and President Emmanuel Macron says France will respond 'immediately and decisively' if any of its citizens are attacked.

Italian Defence Minister: decision to join China's BRI was "atrocious"


The Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto has described the country's decision to join China's Belt & Road Initiative in 2019 as "improvised and atrocious."

India's Supreme Court to hear petition of Manipur sexual assault victims

India's Supreme Court is hearing a petition filed by two women from the north-eastern state of Manipur, who were paraded naked and sexually assaulted by a mob in May. The crime was caught on camera and sparked nationwide protests. The Indian government has also urged the court to transfer the probe into the case out of Manipur on the grounds that it could lead to more ethnic clashes. More than 120 have died and over 60,000 have been displaced in Manipur since the clashes first began in May this year.

UN says its humanitarian operations are continuing in Niger, despite coup

The United Nations says it still has not had any contact with the
military following the coup in Niger.
Speaking to the media from the capital on Friday, the UNDP
