There's set to be a major expansion of oil and gas extraction from the North Sea.
The UK government will issue at least 100 new licences for drilling to take place off the coast of Scotland.
Funding has also been announced for a massive new carbon capture project. The idea is to capture carbon dioxide emissions and then pump them into empty old oil and gas reservoirs in the North Sea.
The news has been greeted with anger by environmental groups, who have accused the UK government of greenwashing - and want more money to be spent on renewable energy generation.
Malcolm Grimston, an energy policy research fellow at Imperial College London, has said the plan raises "a real dilemma":
In: We do need...
Out: ...import it all.
