US National Guard prepare for DC trucker protests

The US is aiming to deploy 700 National Guard to Washington DC to
counter a trucker protest planned to coincide with President Joe

Hong Kong set for mass compulsory city-wide COVID-19 testing

Hong Kong is planning multiple rounds of city-wide compulsory mass testing in a bid to curb a growing outbreak of COVID-19. The government says anyone who tests positive will then be isolated to break community transmission chains. But some health experts say a full city lockdown is needed.

Blinken cancels meeting with Lavrov, citing Russian invasion of Ukraine

Russia recognises broader region of Ukraine as independent

President Vladimir Putin has confirmed Russia's recognising not just the region of Ukraine under separatist control but also the wider region as part of the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics.

That would include territory firmly under the control of the Ukrainian government.

Arbery Killers Found Guilty of Hate Crime

A federal jury has found three White men guilty of committing a hate crime when they killed Ahmaud Arbery as he was out jogging in a Georgia suburb.  The jury found Arbery's killers were motivated because he was Black. 

 And as US Correspondent Rachel Silverman reports, his killing was one of several that prompted mass demonstrations across the United States two years ago.

Oil pushing $100 a barrel as Ukraine-Russia tensions ratchet up

Oil prices jumped to almost $100 a barrel on Tuesday on fears of full-on war in Ukraine.

Natural gas prices are also spiking as traders grow increasingly concerned about possible export disruptions after Russia recognized the independence of two breakaway regions in Eastern Ukraine on Monday and sent troops into the region.
