Biden sanctions Russia for Ukraine "invasion"

U.S. President Joe Biden has announced significant new sanctions on
Russia, in what he called a first tranche to stop further Russian
aggression.

The move comes in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's troop
deployment to separatist regions of Eastern Ukraine, which the UK and
US have both called the "beginning of an invasion".

In a televised address, President Biden vowed to target Russia's
financial system and the Kremlin elite.

The US president insisted that Russia is clearly preparing for war.
