Germany’s Social Democrats vote yes to governing coalition

Germany's Social Democrats voted to to join the country's next governing coalition, ending more than five months of political uncertainty.


They will once again govern with chancellor Angela Merkel's conservatives.

Uganda Biometric Refugee Verification

Intro;


The Ugandan government has launched a large-scale programme on to verify the identities of all refugees in the country.

 

Using biometric data, the UN Refugee Agency, the World Food Programme, and government officials will collect fingerprints and scan irises of more than 1 million refugees.

Weinstein Co saved from bankruptcy in last minute deal

The Weinstein Company has been saved from bankruptcy in a last minute
deal - reportedly worth 500 million dollars.

The future of the movie company has been under question since Harvey
Weinstein was accused of sexual misconduct by around 80 women, as well
as sexual assault and rape which he denies.

UN condemns Burkina Faso attack

Gunmen have launched coordinated attacks on at least two areas of Burkina Faso's capital.

The militants attacked the French embassy and the military headquarters in Ouagadougou.

At least 7 soldiers and 6 attackers have been killed, but the death is expected to rise.

The United Nations has condemned the incident.

UN calls on Syrian government to grant access for medical evacuees in Eastern Ghouta

White House Softens Call for Gun Control

The top lobbyist for the National Rifle Association says President Trump has retreated from his surprising embrace of gun control measures this week.

President Trump: 'trade wars are good'

US President Donald Trump says "trade wars are good and easy to win" amid controversy over his decision to impose steep tariffs on steel and aluminium imports.

In an early morning Tweet, he said the US was "losing billions of dollars on trade".

Moscow refutes US accusations of violating INF treaty

Russia's Ambassador to the United States refuted Washington's claims that Moscow's new strategic weapons violate the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty. U.S. responds to Russian nuclear weapon threat

The United States has responded to claims from Russia that they have
developed an invincible nuclear weapon.

During President Vladimir Putin's two hour speech he said U.S. missile
defense systems in Asia and Europe prompted Moscow to create these
weapons.

In his address a video graphic was shown that appeared to show
missiles falling on the U.S. state of Florida.

The State Department says it's not the behaviour of a responsible
international player.

Growing number of US retailers limit gun sales
