US says clearance of Raqqa continues

The U.S. military says the work to fully clear Raqqa, Syria of all Islamic State forces continues.

A spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces says the fighting is over, and the Islamic State no longer controls the city it considered the capital of its caliphate.

U.S. Army Colonel Ryan Dillon would only confirm the majority of the city is no longer under Islamic State control.

Judge Blocks Trump's Third Travel Ban

A federal judge in Hawaii has blocked the latest version of President Trump's travel ban. 

The judge issued a restraining order just hours before the restrictions were set to take effect.

Charm offensive by Greek Prime Minister with Pres. Trump

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was on a charm offensive, speaking about how his nation is emerging from its debt crisis and becoming a destination for investment during a Rose Garden press conference with U.S. President Donald Trump. 

Prime Minister Tsipras also emphasized how critical Greece is to regional stability at a time when U.S. relations with Turkey are deteriorating.

The Prime Minister laughed off a direct question from John Roberts of the Fox News Channel about what he said about Donald Trump last year.

Senators agree to compromise on health care

Key U.S. Senators agreed to a deal to restore funds on health care that earlier U.S. President Donald Trump tried to cut by executive order.

Previous efforts to carry out Donald Trump's campaign promise to repeal and replace the legislation nicknamed ObamaCare, the Affordable Care Act, which expanded access to health care insurance have failed.

Even as the Senators were announcing their deal, U.S. President Donald Trump sounded confident he could deliver on his political promises.

Islamic State stronghold in Syria "falls" to US-backed forces

US-backed forces say they have liberated a city in Northern Syria that was once used as the headquarters for Islamic State.


The US says more than 90 percent of Raqqa is now in the control of fighters backed by Washington.

Air quality in Delhi worsens ahead of Diwali, caution advised

Pollution monitoring agencies have sounded an alarm following New Delhi's deteriorating air quality and have advised residents the use of masks for the next few days.

Doctors say they have seen a sudden spike in patients complaining of respiratory issues.

Delhi is among the most polluted cities in the world and has recently launched a six month long action plan to tackle air pollution.

A new survey shows that the majority of Indians say they trust the government in India, but it also reveals that more than half of Indians are in favour of military rule.

Maltese journalist murdered in car bomb attack

There's been an outpouring of sadness and anger at the murder of a Maltese journalist killed by a bomb blast in her car.

Daphne Caruana Galizia (pron: Car - uh - ana Gal - its - ee- aa) was a provocative, investigative reporter famous for exposing political scandals and confronting the Maltese government.

The journalist had reported death threats against her to police as recently as two weeks ago.

The EU and the UK have agreed Brexit negotiations should 'accelerate' in coming months.

It comes after UK Prime Minister Theresa May met European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker for talks over dinner in Brussels.

Weeks before wildfire victims can return home

It could be weeks before victims of California's wildfires are allowed back into their homes. 

41 people have died in the most lethal outbreak of wildfires in the state's history.

Storm Ophelia continues to cause disruption across British Isles

Schools in northern Ireland are staying closed for a second day as storm Ophelia is expected to cause further disruption. Three people died in hurricane force winds in Ireland on Monday.
