IOC AWARDS RUSSIAN DOPING WHISTLEBLOWERS

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) awarded Russian whistleblowers who helped the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) expose widespread state-sponsored doping in Russia. The sensitive information that they shared with the international body led to severe sanctions against Russia's Olympic and Paralympic teams. Daria Bondarchuk reports from the Russian capital.

British Banker Hong Kong Murder Trial



A British banker accused of murdering two women in Hong Kong has had is plea of manslaughter rejected.


The bodies of two Indonesian women in their 20s were found in Rurik Jutting's apartment in 2014, if convicted he faces life in prison.

Russia and Saudi Arabia look to boost non-OPEC cooperation

UK LEADERS HOLD BREXIT TALKS

Brexit talks are being held in London with with the leaders of the UK's three devolved governments.

The top politicians for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are meeting with Britain's Prime Minister.

Scotland and Northern Ireland voted to remain in the EU in June's referendum, which England and Wales voted to leave.

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has warned she could call another independence referendum if Scottish links with the EU are not preserved.

German official warns over clown activity

The interior minister of the German state of Bavaria has warned that his office will prosecute people who don clown costumes with the goal of scaring people.

MIGRANTS BEGIN TO LEAVE CALAIS JUNGLE

The first coaches have left the so-called Jungle camp in Calais, taking migrants to refugee centres elsewhere in France.

Over 1000 police officers and French officials have started work on clearing the camp which houses around 7000 people.

There were some clashes with police over the weekend.

Australia's Solicitor General retires over fight with Attorney-General

There are cries of foul after Australia's second highest law officer resigned saying his relationship with the nation's Attorney-General Senator George Brandis had broken down irretrievably .
Solicitor-General Justin Gleeson and the attorney-general have been embroiled in a public spat over changes to Mr Gleeson's role, principally that no-one including the prime minister could seek the solicitor-general's advice without the attorney-generals' permission.

At least 13 dead in US bus crash

According to local media reports at least 13 people have died in
southern California after a bus collided with a tractor-trailer.

The National Transportation Safety Board says it will investigate the
incident which occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Clinton to focus on issues and not her rival

BANKS COULD LEAVE UK OVER BREXIT

Several large banks are considering quitting the UK early in 2017 because of Brexit.
This according to the British Bankers' Association.

The BBA warns the financial industry is concerned the UK may exit the European Single Market as it leaves the EU.

And it says some small banks may even relocate from Britain before the end of this year.

United Nations confirm receipt of South Africa's ICC withdrawal

The United Nations has confirmed it has received South Africa's
withdrawal from the International Criminal Court.

It's set to take a year to come into effect but other African nations
may now be tempted to follow South Africa's example.

US claims progress against the Islamic State

The Obama administration is claiming progress in it's fight against the Islamic State.

While the United Nations says Aleppo is a slaughterhouse, the U.S. says it remains focused on fighting the Islamic State, not fighting the Assad regime.

With the Islamic State reportedly taking Iraqi families to be used as human shields in Mosul, the U.S. again says they are focused on supporting the Iraqis in retaking their city.

US sails through South China Sea

The U.S. is confirming that a U.S. Navy ship did sail through the South China Sea, the region of sandbars and tiny islands that is claimed by China and other nations.

According to the Chinese Defence Ministry, two Chinese destroyers warned the ship to leave, claiming their route was provocative and illegal.

EU-Canada trade deal fails

The Canadian trade minister has left Brussels, saying the European Union is incapable of signing a trade deal.
