Latin American left reacts to Dilma Rousseff's impeachement

The leftist governments of Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia have recalled their ambassadors to Brazil, in protest of the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff.

The vote by Brazil's senate Wednesday to impeach Rousseff ended thirteen years of governing by Brazil's leftist Workers Party.

Apple's Tim Cook Calls EU Tax Decision 'Maddening'

The Chief Executive of Apple, Tim Cook, has called the EU's decision to make the company hand over up 14.5 billion dollars [13 billion euros/11 billion pounds] in unpaid Irish taxes 'maddening' and 'disappointing'.

Mr. Cook said he's confident that Tuesday's ruling, which said that the Irish government had effectively provided illegal state aid to Apple, will be overturned on appeal.

US journalist detained by Turkey

Turkey has detained Lindsey Snell for alledgedly violating a war zone and attempting to cross into Syria.

According to her social media profiles, she works for Vocativ, a website which claims it uses technology to find stories in the deep web.

SpaceX rocket exploded at test facility

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket has exploded at a launch complex in Florida.

There are no reports of injuries and the extent of the damage at the Cape Canaveral facility is not yet known.

The rocket was set to launch early Saturday carrying a communications satellite for an Israeli company.

Venezuela is withdrawing its ambassador from Brazil and freezing ties with its neighbor to the south, in response to the removal from office of Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff.
Brazil’s Senate removed Rousseff from office on Wednesday for breaking budgetary laws.

Republican presidential hopeful, Donald Trump, says he didn't discuss who would pay for a border wall in his meeting in Mexico City, with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto.

He said he'd had a 'substantive, direct' discussion with the Mexican president, and stressed his respect for Mexican-Americans and the country itself.

Mr Trump has made the building of a wall along the US border with Mexico, a centerpiece of his presidential campaign.

US says impeachment of Brazilian president was legal

Countries around the world are reacting to the impeachment of Brazil's President, Dilma Rousseff.

Brazil's Senate has voted to remove Ms Rousseff, a former leftist guerrilla, on charges of manipulating the budget to hide the country's economic problems. 

Venezuela has recalled its ambassador and severed ties with Brazil, saying the removal of Ms Rousseff was illegal.

But in Washington, State department spokesman John Kirby told reporters that the Senate had acted within Brazil's constitution, and said the US would continue dealing with the country.
