FRANCE URGES EURO 2016 ALCOHOL BAN

France says cities hosting Euro 2016 matches should ban the sale of alcohol near fan zones and match venues.

It comes after several days of violence in Marseille involving English, Russian and French groups.

UEFA has threatened to ban England and Russia from the tournament if there is fresh trouble.

But it is under pressure after a lack of security inside the stadium for the game between the two countries.

French policing tactics have also been criticised for inflaming tensions.

A German MP said certain lawmakers have been placed under police protection after receiving death threats over the parliament's vote to recognize the genocide of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire.

ORLANDO GUNMAN 'MENTALLY ILL'

The ex wife of the gunman who killed 50 people in a Florida nightclub says he was "mentally ill" and had a "violent temper".

She says her family rescued her from an abusive marriage to Omar Mateen after just four months.

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack but the reality of its links to the Orlando shootings is not clear.

Omar Mateen's rampage inside the Pulse nightclub in Orlando in the early hours of Sunday morning was the deadliest mass shooting in recent US history.

The French government has banned the sale of alcohol on match days near the stadiums and fan zones hosting Euro 2016, after violent clashes at the weekend between Russian and English supporters in Marseille.
The move comes after UEFA threatened both countries with disqualification from the tournament over the fan violence.

Russian minister backs UEFA case against Russian soccer body

Russia's sports minister thinks European soccer body UEFA did the right thing by starting a disciplinary case against the Russian Football Union for crowd disturbances after the Russia-England match.  Sanctions against Russia will be decided at a disciplinary meeting on Tuesday.  Julia Lyubova reports from Moscow.

Police in Orlando begin releasing names of nightclub victims

Police in Orlando are beginning to release the identities of the 50 people killed in the shooting attack on the Pulse nightclub which serves the city's lesbian and gay communities


The FBI says the gunman had been interviewed in 2013 and again in 2014 because of his suspected ties to Islamic extremism.

FBI identifies Orlando gunman, confirms two previous interviews

The FBI says the gunman who carried out the Orlando nightclub attack was interviewed by investigators in 2013 and 2014 amid reports that he'd expressed Islamic fundamentalist sympathies.


50 people are known to have died, and more than 50 others are being treated for gunshot injuries in hospital.


President Obama has called the attack an "act of terror and of hate".

President Obama says it's too early to know exactly what motivated Omar Mateen to attack the Pulse Nightclub, which catered to the lesbian and gay community in Orlando.

UEFA THREATEN ENGLAND AND RUSSIA WITH EURO 2016 DISQUALIFICATION

UEFA has threatened Russia and England with disqualification from euro 2016 over fan violence.

It follows days of violence in Marseille involving French people, as well as Russia and England supporters.

And England fans were attacked by Russian supporters inside the stadium in Marseille as Russia and England drew 1 - 1 on Saturday.

UEFA has started disciplinary proceedings against Russia, but a statement says both sides could be thrown out of the tournament if violence reoccurs.

UEFA OPENS PROCEEDINGS AGAINST RUSSIA

UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Russia over crowd trouble, racism, and fireworks being set off after the country's opening euro 2016 game against England.

Russian supporters attacked England fans inside the stadium in Marseille as the match concluded.

It followed several days of violence in Marseille involving locals, England fans, Russian supporters and police.

Several England supporters have been hospitalised.

Russians Celebrate ‘Russia Day’ Holiday

US singer shot dead after concert

US pop singer Christina Grimmie has been shot and killed in Florida.

Police say the 2014 finalist on the TV show 'The Voice' was deliberately targeted by the gunman.

22-year-old Grimmie, who was gunned down outside an Orlando theatre, was rushed to hospital where she died from her injuries. Her attacker then took his own life.

The United Nations Secretary General has issued a rebuke against Saudi Arabia and its allies for exerting undue pressure on the UN to remove the country from a list of nations that kill children in conflict. 

Ban Ki-moon said the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen had threatened to cut off funding to UN humanitarian operations.
