Refugees uncertain about route on Macedonian border

Refugees making their way into the European Union are uncertain about which route to take after Hungary closed its border with Serbia.

Protests have erupted there as asylum seekers from Syria, Iraq and across the middle east camp out trying to cross into the EU.

As Jack Parrock reports from the border between the Serbia and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, many people say they intend to continue on to Hungary.

Federal Reserve Officials Begin Two Day Policy Meeting


Officials at the US Federal Reserve have begun a two day meeting to consider whether to raise interest rates for the first time in nearly a decade.


The decision will be announced on Thursday - any rate hike would end the monetary stimulus policy the Fed began after the financial crisis of 2008.

Survivor of live television shooting gives her first interview

The woman who survived a horrific massacre on live television says she thought she was going to die.
Virginia chamber of commerce official Vicki Gardner was being interviewed on a morning news program last month when Vester Lee Flanagan opened fire killing his former colleagues - reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward.
Vicki Gardener was shot in the back and lost a kidney.

Speaking on Fox News in her first interview after the attack, she said she thought she'd been shot in the head.

US Firefighters fight for 9/11 compensation

Hundreds of firefighters are expected in America's capital to campaign
for extra compensation to pay for medical conditions they have as a
result of the 9/11 attacks on America.

Many have cancer which they claim is due to exposure at Ground Zero in
New York, the site where the World Trade Center towers collapsed.

UN seeks Sri Lankan war crimes trials

The United Nations has ordered the creation of a court to try alleged
war crimes from Sri Lanka's conflict with the Tamil Tigers.

The UN estimates 40,000 Tamils were killed in the final months of the

UK's newly elected opposition leader in first debate with Prime Minister

Britain was promised Prime Minister's Questions with a difference on Wednesday, with a new leader of the opposition Labour party making his debut.


Jeremy Corbyn, who was elected on the weekend decided to read out questions from the British public and said there would be less 'theatre' at the weekly debate in parliament.

Croatia to allow "safe passage" as refugees find new EU route

More than 150 refugees have arrived in Croatia - a day after Hungary shut its border with Serbia.
