UK's jobless falls, number in work at all-time high

The number of people out of work in the UK has fallen in the first thee months of the year, giving a boost to the Conservative-Lib Dem coalition Government led by David Cameron. 

The unemployment rate remains at 5.7 per cent however the number of people in work has risen to an all-time high.  From London, Catherine Drew reports.

Prince Charles and Duchess of Cornwall begin US visit

IRAN TALKS CONTINUE IN LAUSANNE

Talks between US Secretary of State John Kerry and Iranian foreign minister Javad Zarif have gone into a third day in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Negotiating teams from Russia and the EU have joined the talks, in an attempt to find a truly international agreement.

Anti-austerity demonstrations turn violent outside European Central Bank

Anti-austerity demonstrations outside the European Central Bank in Frankfurt have turned violent after rioters torched police cars and threw stones at officers. 

German police say they expect around 10,000 people to join a protest march coinciding with the inauguration ceremony of the ECB's brand new headquarters.

NETANYAHU'S LIKUD WINS ISRAELI ELECTION

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud Party has won the country's election.

He says he will now press ahead with forming a right-wing coalition government.

If Mr Netanyahu can do so he will enter a fourth term and become the country's longest-serving prime minister.

In the election campaign he had vowed not to allow the creation of a Palestinian state.

Liat Collins, editor of the International Jerusalem Post, says the formation of a coalition will be easier than anyone expected.

FINAL UK BUDGET BEFORE ELECTION

UK finance minister George Osborne will unveil his final budget before the country's general election later ((12.30 GMT)).

The Conservative Chancellor has promised 'no gimmicks' in the tax and spending plans.

But some of them may never even see the light of day, if his party does not win May's election.

The opposition Labour Party insists the budget is a prelude to further major spending cuts if the Conservatives do return to government.

US hopes dashed by Israeli election result

Ukraine's MPs designate parts of east 'occupied territory'

Ukraine's MPs have approved changes to a law on 'special status' for Russian backed militant held areas in eastern Ukraine.

UN investigators again seek referral of Syria war crimes to ICC or independent tribunal

United Nations investigators are making a further push to take alleged cases of war crimes in Syria to the International Criminal Court, as they push forward a plan to publish the names of perpetrators they've identified.


The latest pressure comes as Syria enters its fifth year of conflict and as the Security Council remains deadlocked.

Iran 'Sent Arms to Iraq To Fight IS', US Officials Tell NYT

US markets down ahead of Fed meeting

The Federal Reserve's two day meeting on monetary policy is under way
