NETANYAHU'S LIKUD WINS ISRAELI ELECTION

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud Party has won the country's election.

He says he will now press ahead with forming a right-wing coalition government.

If Mr Netanyahu can do so he will enter a fourth term and become the country's longest-serving prime minister.

In the election campaign he had vowed not to allow the creation of a Palestinian state.

Liat Collins, editor of the International Jerusalem Post, says the formation of a coalition will be easier than anyone expected.
