U.S. Agents Target "Anchor Baby" Operations

Federal agents in California have raided more than a dozen hotels as part of an investigation targeting "birth tourism" or "anchor baby" schemes.

Those schemes cater to pregnant women who travel to the US on fraudulent visas so their children will be born US citizens.

Babies born on American soil are automatically U,S. citizens,   and when they’re 21 years old,  are able to act as  "anchors"  sponsoring family members to immigrate  legally to the U. S.
