BREAKING: PISTORIUS JAILED FOR 5 YEARS

South African athlete Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to five years in prison for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

He was given a suspended prison sentence on firearms charges, to run concurrently.

Judge Thokozile Masipa told the court she was satisfied South Africa's prison system could cope with a disabled inmate like Pistorius.

And she said a non-custodial sentence would not be appropriate.

27 year-old Pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide over the shooting of Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day of last year.

Sentencing day looms for Pistorius

INTRO:  South African paralympic and Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius will know on Tuesday whether he will go to prison for shooting and killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in the early hours of Valentine's Day last year. The athlete has already been found guilty of culpable homicide (manslaughter). The judge ruled a month ago that the state did not prove that Pistorius intended killing his girlfriend, therefore his version that he mistook her for an intruder was plausible. But South Africans are divided over the issue, as Gary Alfonso reports ...

Nazi war criminals paid millions in benefits as part of 'expulsion deal'

Dozens of suspected Nazi War criminals have collected US benefits despite being kicked out of the country.

The findings, from an Associated press  report,  revealed the payments were part of a process that saw the men stripped of their US citizenship before leaving voluntarily.

In Washington, Kevin McAleese

The total sum paid out is thought to run into millions of dollars of taxpayers' money, with the AP investigation identifying at least 4 suspects currently still  living outside the US, on Social Security.

The payments reportedly continued thanks to a legal loophole that allowed the U.S. Justice Department to expedite the removal of Nazi suspects, avoiding lengthy deportation procedures in the process.

SS troops and a German rocket scientist are among those thought to have benefited.

In response to the report, The US justice department confirmed that financial support continues as part of a deal for individuals who leave the US voluntarily.
