LONDON POLICE: CHRIS CAIRNS NOT CHARGED YET

Police in London say that contrary to reports in the New Zealand media, Chris Cairns has not yet been charged with perverting the course of justice.

It had been reported the 44 year-old had been charged over the 2012 defamation case in which Mr Cairns was awarded damages against Lalit Modi, the former boss of the Indian Premier League. 

Mr Modi had accused him of match-fixing.

Cyprus launches sea mission to save refugees

Cyprus has launched a mission to save at least 300 refugees stranded off the West Coast of the island in an overcapacity fishing boat.

The passengers are thought to be mainly women and children fleeing from Syria, trying to enter the European Union.

UK Prime Minister to apologise to Queen after "purring" remark

The British Prime Minister has said he is "embarrassed" and "extremely sorry" for remarks he made about the UK's Queen Elizabeth II.


Speaking to former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, David Cameron said "she purred down the line" when he told her Scotland had voted No to Independence from the UK.

France doesn't rule out Syria air strikes

France's Defense Minister says the possibility of joining the US in air strikes against Syria is not being excluded.

France has repeatedly maintained it's focus is on eradicating the spread of Islamic State militants in Iraq, but Minister Le Drian told French radio the option was on the table.

9 terror-related arrests made in UK

Nine men have been arrested in London on suspicion of encouraging terrorism, after a raid by the Metropolitan Police.


It's thought those arrested are members of a banned organisation, though police stressed that this was part of an ongoing inquiry and not a response to any immediate public threat.

Ukrainian President sees EU membership bid after six years

US attack against IS continues; Britain to vote on joining fight; British jihadists killed in airstrikes

British warplanes could be participating in airstrikes against Islamic State militants by the weekend.

Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, British Prime Minister David Cameron told world leaders that Britain is ready to join the fight.

Mr Cameron has recalled parliament to vote on Friday whether Britain will participate in military action in Iraq.

A third night of air strikes in Syria has seen the US-led coalition targeting oil refineries which generate income for the Islamic State.

US, Saudi and UAE aircraft were involved in the raids in eastern Syria against IS-held positions.

Activists claim 14 IS fighters and five civilians were killed.

It comes as the UK's Parliament prepares to vote (on Friday) on whether to join air strikes against the Islamic State in Iraq.

LA Hotel Workers Get Huge Raise

US Sanctions Foreign Fighter Facilitators

The US has slapped sanctions on eleven individuals and one Indonesian organization, for aiding the flow of foreign fighters and funding to Islamist terrorist groups- including the Islamic State organisation.

The move by the US Treasury Department came as President Obama lobbied other countries to stop foreign fighters from joining terrorist groups, and to disrupt their sources of funding.
