Ukraine, Russia and EU gas talks get underway in Brussels

Trilateral gas talks between Russia, Ukraine and the European Union are taking place in Brussels for the sides to come to an agreement over unpaid gas debts and prices.

The talks have been called a 'high noon' moment with the cold winter already taking hold in Ukraine.

Zamiba's President dies in a London hospital

Zambia's President Michael Sata has died in a London hospital on Tuesday evening, where he had been receiving medical treatment.


Mr Sata was elected in 2011 and made a name for himself with his confrontational style of leadership earned him the nickname 'King Cobra'.


It is not certain who will succeed the president, the matter is likely to be discussed when the Zambian cabinet meets on Wednesday.

Serious Fraud Office 'to investigate' Tesco

The UK's Serious Fraud Office is understood to be starting a criminal investigation into accounting irregularities at the British supermarket chain Tesco...

Investigations Begin After Spectacular Space Rocket Launch Explosion

Ebola Nurse in Maine Rejects Home Quarantine Rules

An American nurse for Doctors Without Borders, who was forcibly held in isolation in New Jersey after returning from treating Ebola patients in Sierrra Leone, says she won't obey instructions to stay at home in the state of Maine for 21 days.

Kaci Hickox was pulled aside at Newark Airport on Friday under new regulations, but has showed no symptoms of the virus.

Molten lava flow threatens homes on Hawaii


Lava from a Hawaiian volcano has begun to destroy buildings in its path.  

Officials say dozens of homes lie on the route of the Lava flow which has been traveling since June 27th. 

Several hundred residents of the village of Pahoa (Puh-HOE-uh) have begun to evacuate their homes. 

Speaking from Hawaii local official Darryl Oliveira says an  observation platform has been created so residents can see if their properties are being affected.

Russian government hackers suspected of cyber attack on WH

UK under fire because of asylum backlog


Britain's Home Office is struggling with a backlog of asylum cases which date back to 2007.


The UK's Public Accounts committee has told the government it must resolve the problem, saying that the number of new asylum seekers awaiting a decision on their status rose 70% in the first quarter of this year.

ROCKET EXPLOSION BLOW TO ASTEROID MINING PROJECT


A rocket carrying food and supplies to the International Space Station exploded just a few seconds after take-off from a launch site on the east coast of the United States.

 

The Antares rocket was also carrying a small commercial satellite from Planetary Resources, a company established to extract minerals from asteroids.

Slowing user growth hits Twitter shares hard

Twitter's stock fell 10% on Tuesday after the company announced third quarter results that showed user growth is slowing down.

White House struggles to standardise ebola response

The Obama administration is under pressure over the response at home to the ebola outbreak.

It follows the decision of some states to order the quarantining of health care workers returning from treating ebola patients in West Africa - a move which goes beyond official guidelines. 

Public health officials are warning that the approach will backfire, by hindering the work of those fighting the virus at its source.
