UK under fire because of asylum backlog


Britain's Home Office is struggling with a backlog of asylum cases which date back to 2007.


The UK's Public Accounts committee has told the government it must resolve the problem, saying that the number of new asylum seekers awaiting a decision on their status rose 70% in the first quarter of this year.

The French port of Calais is also struggling with the growing  numbers of illegal immigrants, which have congregated in the area as a result of the UK's tough border controls.
