UK JETS FLY FRESH SORTIES OVER IRAQ

British Tornado jets have returned from new combat sorties over Iraq, without launching any air strikes on Islamic State positions.

The UK Parliament backed involvement in military action in Iraq on Friday.

Since then UK jets flying from Cyprus have carried out armed reconnaissance missions but not fired their laser guided bombs and missiles.

Obama challenges world to improve its response to health threats

US President Barack Obama said combating the Ebola outbreak in West Africa is a top national security priority for the US - and said it needs to be a priority for the world.

Mr. Obama was speaking from the first annual Global Health Security Agenda Summit in Washington.

He outlined a three pronged strategy to improve the world's reaction to health threats - to prevent epidemics, to detect outbreaks early, and to respond to threats rapidly.

In his remarks, the President thanked South Korea, which will host the conference next year, and Japan, which will donate 500,000 pieces of protective gear to health workers in West Africa.

Barack Obama also challenged inventors around the world to design better health gear for workers, which the US hopes to fund and distribute in West Africa within the next few months.
