Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has flatly contradicted US President Donald Trump's announcement of a fresh ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, saying there is no truce in Lebanon.

Israeli airstrikes have continued across southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah has fired rockets and drones into northern Israel — despite the deal Washington says it brokered on Monday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned he will order strikes on the Lebanese capital Beirut if Hezbollah does not stop its attacks.

Trump: "I don't care" if Iran talks are over

FIRST EBOLA SURVIVORS DISCHARGED IN DRC AS WHO CHIEF OPENS NEW TREATMENT CENTRE AND BRAZIL INVESTIGATES SUSPECTED CASES

 

The World Health Organization's director-general has announced five Ebola patient recoveries in the Democratic Republic of Congo — among the first confirmed survivals from the Bundibugyo strain — as he opened a new treatment centre in the outbreak's epicentre on Sunday.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made the announcement in Bunia, the capital of the affected Ituri province, before travelling to Kinshasa for talks with the DRC prime minister and President Felix Tshisekedi on stepping up medical supplies and funding.

The outbreak — now the third-largest since Ebola was discovered — has produced more than a hundred confirmed cases in the DRC and nine in neighbouring Uganda, while Brazil is investigating two suspected cases and Italy has ruled one out.

DRC REVISES EBOLA CASE COUNT AS OUTBREAK CONFIRMED ACROSS THREE PROVINCES

 

The Democratic Republic of Congo's health ministry has revised its Ebola case count, removing suspected cases that have been ruled out after investigation, as the outbreak — now confirmed across Ituri, Nord-Kivu, and Sud-Kivu provinces — continues to evolve rapidly.

The World Health Organization declared the outbreak a public health emergency of international concern in mid-May, and roughly one thousand suspected and confirmed cases of the Bundibugyo strain have been reported, with hundreds of deaths.

The WHO's director general has now visited Ituri province, where authorities have suspended commercial flights and stepped up screening of travellers heading to the nine countries that border the DRC.
