ATLANTA SET FOR US PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump face one another later (Thursday) for the first TV debate of this year's election.

It will take place in Atlanta, and is the earliest television debate ever between the two major party candidates in any American presidential election.

US, Korea and Japan vow strategic cooperation to boost security and economies

US State Department insists Julian Assange put lives at risk through leaks

The US State Department has reinstated its assertion that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange put lives at risk — but it declined to say how. 


Mr Assange landed back in Australia on Wednesday after pleading guilty to violating espionage law in a deal that sets him free from a 14-year legal battle.


He served time behind bars in the UK and stayed at the Ecuadorian embassy in London whilst fighting extradition to the United States, having been responsible for one of the biggest leaks of classified material in American history.

Southern Pakistan is in the grips of extreme heatwave with temperatures expected to rise as high as 50 degrees celsius

Biden pardons US veterans convicted under homosexuality law

US President Joe Biden is offering a pardon to thousands of veterans who were convicted under a military law that banned homosexuality.


Announcing the proclamation on Wednesday, the president said he was "righting an historic wrong".


The news comes as Americans across the United States mark Pride Month, which celebrates and commemorates lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender history.

Progressive loss and far-right win in US votes
