Indian farmers once again attempt to march to Delhi amid tight security at borders

Security in New Delhi has been beefed up as thousands of farmers are trying to once again proceed towards the capital to demand a legal guarantee for floor prices for their crops.


The Indian government says these demands cannot be met ahead of the general elections.

 

Police teams have been deployed and barricades put up at Delhi's borders with neighbouring states.

APPLE IPHONE SALES FALL IN CHINA

Philippines-China trade charges over South China Sea collision

The Philippines has lodged a protest and summoned a Chinese representative over a collision in the contested Spratly Islands.

Manila says four crew members were hurt after Chinese Coast Guard vessels water cannoned and executed 'dangerous manoeuvres' in the South China Sea while its ships were on a routine resupply mission.

Filipino troops are stationed on a grounded naval ship in the region. Beijing has repeatedly called on Manila to remove that warship which is being used as a makeshift military base.

Super Tuesday could decide California Senate seat

Super Tuesday is underway in California, one of fifteen states voting in primary elections to determine the presidential nominees as well as other statewide races.


One of the most closely-watched races is to see who will take over the Senate seat vacated by Dianne Feinstein who held the position for three decades.

Haley eyes Virginia in Super Tuesday voting

Italian lawmakers approve Red Sea shipping mission

Indian opposition slams government over electoral bonds extension plea by State Bank of India

Opposition parties in India are accusing Prime Minister Modi's BJP of not wanting to disclose details of its donors and donations till after the general election this spring.


The State Bank of India was issuing a political funding scheme also known as electoral bonds, which has now been scrapped.


The bank asked the country's Supreme Court on Monday for a three-month extension to provide all information related to the scheme.

Hostage and ceasefire talks continue in Cairo

Talks are continuing in Cairo as key mediators Egypt and Qatar try to get Israel and Hamas to come to a deal which would see a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Roman Polanski goes on trial in Paris on defamation charges

The filmmaker Roman Polanski faces a defamation trial on Tuesday in France for questioning sexual assault allegations about him made by British actress Charlotte Lewis.
