Rescuers in Turkiye and Syria are working into the night to try and
find survivors trapped in the rubble of Monday's deadly earthquake.

More than 6,300 people are believed to have died.

But officials are warning the death toll would rise much higher in the
coming days, as freezing conditions worsen.

Emergency workers release lethal gas from derailed Ohio train

Authorities have successfully drained and burned off a toxic chemical
from rail cars that derailed in Ohio.
The train came off the tracks on Friday night and hundreds of homes in
the immediate vicinity had to be evacuated as a large fire erupted.

Police release footage of fatally shot amputee

Police have released footage of the moments before a double amputee was shot by officers near Los Angeles last month.

Anthony Lowe, who was black, was killed after stabbing a man and allegedly refused to drop his knife.

But his family say he was not a threat to officers because of his disabled condition.

Biden to present economic and legislative success at State of the Union address

More Than 100 People Killed in Nigeria

U.N says it's on hand to support rescue and aid operations in Türkiye and Syria

The United Nations secretariat says teams are on the ground assessing the needs in both Türkiye and Syria.

U.N Secretary General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric says the UN is trying to provide assistance despite power shortages and disruptions to telecommunications.

Syria appeals for assistance from the U.N

Syria's permanent representative to the United Nations has appealed to

US Navy searches for parts after Chinese balloon shot down

The US military is continuing its search for debris from the suspected Chinese surveillance balloon shot down by American fighter jets on Saturday. 

Navy divers are now working to recover remnants off the coast of South Carolina to find more information about the balloon's payload that could provide an insight for US intelligence agencies into China's spying capabilities.
