Biden announces sweeping softening of US marijuana laws

President Biden has announced plans for a sweeping overhaul of US drug laws on marijuana.


He is pardoning thousands of people convicted of marijuana possession and says he's urging the governors of American states to follow suit with regard to local marijuana laws.

US President Joe Biden issues order pardoning all Americans federally convicted of marijuana possession

President Joe Biden has taken his first major steps toward decriminalising marijuana by beginning the process of potentially loosening federal classification of the drug, and calling on Governors to do the same on a state level.


In an Executive Order, he also announced a pardoning of all prior federal possession convictions, a move that would affect thousands of Americans charged with the crime who may have been denied employment, housing, or educational opportunities as a result.

US to screen Ugandan arrivals for Ebola

The United States will start screening passengers arriving from Uganda
following a worsening outbreak of the disease in the country.

At least 37 dead, including 20 children, after gun attack on Thai nursery school

At least 37 people including more than 20 children  have been shot and killed in an attack on  a nursery school in north-east Thailand.


Authorities say a man stormed into the child care centre brandishing a gun and a knife.


He later killed himself at the scene of the attack.

France launches winter energy-saving plan

The French government has laid out its plans to try to reduce energy use, ahead of what could be a difficult winter.
