Protests grow over Johnson's proposed "caretaker administration"

Calls are growing for UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to leave Number 10 Downing Street sooner rather than later, after he announced on Thursday that he recognizes the governing Conservative Party no longer wants him as leader.

The Prime Minister never used the word "resign" in his statement outside Number 10, and insisted he plans to remain as a caretaker Prime Minister until the party has a chance to elect a new leader.

But several top Conservatives are rejecting that idea, calling it unsustainable.

And the leader of the opposition Sir Keir Starmer is threatening Parliamentary action to derail Mr. Johnson's plans.

Meanwhile, it's reported that Boris Johnson is attempting to remain in office so that his wedding reception can be held at Chequers, the country estate that comes with the job of Prime Minister.
