Sir John Major says Boris Johnson should not remain in Downing street "for the overall wellbeing of the country."
In a letter to the executive body that runs the Conservative Party, the former British Prime Minister says it may be unsustainable for Mr Johnson to stay in office for up to three months, as he has proposed to do.
That is a view shared by numerous other Tory MPs, who forced Boris Johnson to announce his resignation following a series of scandals.
