Republicans block commission to investigate 6th January Congress attack


In the US, Republicans blocked a bill that would've created an independent commission to investigate the attack on Congress on the 6th January.

5 people, including a Capitol police officer, were killed when a crowd of former President Donald Trump's supporters smashed its way into Congress.

US pledges Covid-19 support for India

Biden lays out $6tr budget to lift middle class

EU health regulator approves Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for 12-15s

The EU's health regulator has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for 12 to 15 year olds. 

It's the first Covid-19 vaccine available for younger age groups in the European Union. 

The vaccine was approved for teenagers by the FDA in the United States last month.

Sweeping anti-China tech bill moves closer to U.S. Senate vote

A key piece of US legislation aimed at combating China has moved closer to a final vote in the Senate, after a group of Republicans demanded more time to digest its contents.

The sweeping tech bill (which takes direct aim at China) commits 250 billion dollars to boosting American innovation and the production of technical equipment.

Putin, Lukashenko meet after Belarus plane diversion incident

UN to launch probe into Belarus plane diversion

The UN's civil aviation council says it will launch an investigation into the forced grounding of a commercial airline in Belarus, which led to the arrest of dissident journalist Roman Protasevich.

ENGLAND'S JUNE 21ST EASING 'IN DOUBT'

The UK's next planned easing of covid-19 lockdown restrictions on June 21st can't be guaranteed, according to government ministers.

Although overall case rates remain low, a variant first discovered in India has started to spread quickly in parts of the country.

Almost all restrictions on the economy are due to be lifte on June 21st.

And 45% of adults have received both doses of a vaccine - and data suggests the jabs are working well against the India variant.

But cabinet minister Kwasi Kwarteng says he's still optimistic the next easing will go ahead as planned.

India records a dip in the number of daily COVID infections but some reports suggest under-reporting

India has recorded its lowest number of daily covid-19 infections in 44 days - at 186 000.

It takes the country's total caseload to over 27.5 million but some reports suggest under-reporting and a lack of testing could explain the dip in daily numbers.
