Trade talks kick off in Brussels in phase one of EU-UK trade negotiations

Three years after the UK voted to leave the European Union, trade talks have begun in Brussels. 

The UK and the EU have just nine months to thrash out the terms of the future trade agreement - with the deadline at the end of the year. 

At the moment, the UK is in a transition period meaning it is still operating under the terms of EU membership.

North Korea Launches Two Missiles

North Korea has launched two projectiles from a town off its east coast.

They flew around 150 miles and are thought to be short range ballistic missiles, according to the South Korean Military.

US-Taliban deal hits problems over prisoner swap

Second Covid-19 death in the United States

A second death caused by the Covid-19 coronavirus has been recorded in
the United States.

First round of UK/EU trade talks begin in Brussels

Three years after the UK voted to leave the European Union, trade talks are finally beginning in Brussels between the two sides. 

The deadline to reach an agreement on a future trade arrangement is the end of year, leaving a tight timetable to rework 47 years of EU membership.

Clashes between migrants at Greek-Turkish border as thousands attempt to cross into Europe

Europe is facing the possibility of another migrant crisis, following Turkey's decision to reopen its western border into Europe.

There have been clashes at the Greek-Turkish land border as thousands tried to push into the country overnight. 

Greece says it will not accept any asylum applications for a month's following the announcement from Ankara.

France's Louvre museum remains closed amid coronavirus fears

The Louvre in France was closed for a second day today [Monday]. 

The world's most visited museum shut its doors on Sunday, due to risks associated with the coronavirus outbreak. Some management and staff said they were concerned they might be in danger of contamination - as Jessica King reports from Paris.

EMERGENCY MEETING AS FIRST COMMUNITY TRANSMISSION IN UK

UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, is chairing an emergency meeting to sign off a plan for tackling the COVID-19 coronavirus.

He'll be joined by the UK's chief medical advisor and the Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon.

It comes as the UK experienced its first instance of community transmission - when a case is detected which has not been brought from abroad.

UK-US and UK-EU trade talks kick-off

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is pledging to "drive a hard bargain" as he set out his country's negotiating position for a free trade deal with the United States. 

 

The government claims a deal would boost the UK economy by more than $4bn USD. The USA is the UK's largest trading partner after the EU, accounting for nearly 20% of all exports and more than 10% of imports.

 

Meanwhile, talks are also beginning in Brussels between the UK and the European Union, aimed at reaching a post-Brexit trade agreement.

India's largest public sector bank to launch IPO for its payment and card services
