A partial shutdown of the US government is now in its third day, with Senators not expected to debate any new legislation until Thursday at the earliest.

The UK government says police have 'miscommunicated' over the suggestion there may not have been any drones at Gatwick Airport.

Ministers have been holding a conference call to discuss the disruption caused last week when flights had to be suspended due to drone sightings.

WARNINGS OF NEW TSUNAMI IN INDONESIA

There are fears of a new Tsunami in Indonesia - with residents warned to stay away from beaches near the Anak Krakatau volcano.

Giant waves killed at least 281 people on Saturday on the islands of Sumatra and Java.

It's thought the disaster was caused by volcanic activity which caused undersea landslides.

Anak Krakatau has been erupting over the weekend.

Indian government criticised for authorising mass surveillance of computers

Days after the Indian government passed an order authorising ten agencies with powers to intercept, monitor, decrypt information from any computer in the country, critics have called this an attempt to create a 'surveillance state'.

The Indian government has defended the move, saying this will help the establishment track terrorist activity online.

U.S. government shutdown to last through Christmas

A partial shutdown of the U.S. government which began at midnight on
Friday will continue through the Christmas holiday.

The Senate has adjourned until Thursday as lawmakers remain divided
over whether to allocate $5 bn. for President Trump's border wall.

And a Trump aide warns the government could stay closed into the new year.  

This shutdown is expected to leave hundreds of thousands of people unpaid.

Supreme Court Deals Blow to Trump Asylum Plan

The US Supreme Court has dealt a blow to one of the Trump administration's plans to limit asylum. The court's ruling has left in effect a lower court decision that temporarily bars the president from changing the rules for people who claim asylum after entering the country.

FLIGHTS RESUME AT GATWICK (AGAIN)

Police in Britain are still hunting a drone operator - or operators - who caused Gatwick Airport to shut from Wednesday into Friday.

Hundreds of flights have been leaving and arriving on Friday, after the UK military was drafted in to assist.

Netherlands May Take Russia to Court Over MH17

The Netherlands is considering taking Russia to an international court for the downing of Malaysian Airlines Flight 17.

Last black coal mine in Germany to close

Germany will close its last remaining domestic black coal mine on Friday, marking the end of an era for a region that had long depended on mining.

Black coal is still a major part of Germany's energy supply, but the country now relies on cheaper imports from abroad.

Indian drug authorities widen Johnson & Johnson probe

India's central drug control organisation has asked Johnson & Johnson to stop manufacturing its baby powder until tests prove that the product is asbestos free.

This comes days after a Reuters report claimed that the firm knew for decades that cancer-causing asbestos could be found in the product. 

The company has described the Reuters article as one-sided, false and inflammatory.

In resignation letter, Mattis excoriates Trump foreign policy

US Defence Secretary James Mattis has resigned, saying the President needs a leader at the Pentagon whose views are "better aligned" with his own.


The move comes just 24 hours after he President Trump over-ruled General Mattis and ordered a complete withdrawal of US forces from Syria.
