British MPs warn of Brexit border chaos due to planning failures

A group of influential British MPs is warning the country's borders could be at risk if the government fails to adequately beef up its customs force when the UK leaves the European Union. 

The Home Affairs Committee says government plans to hire 300 more Border Force staff is inadequate amid fears staff could be diverted from crucial security functions to cope with an increase is custom checks.   From London, Catherine Drew reports.

MPs URGE INVESTIGATION INTO RUSSIAN INFLUENCE OVER BREXIT VOTE

There are growing calls from British MPs for a full investigation into claims Russia tried to influence the Brexit referendum.

It follows a study from British academics which claims thousands of Russia-bases twitter accounts sent pro-Brexit tweets in the hours around the EU referendum last year.

WADA decides not to re-instate Russia over state-sponsored doping

The World Anti-Doping Agency said on Thursday that Russia remains 'non-compliant' with its Code and has decided not to re-instate Russia's anti-doping agency RUSADA. President Robert Mugabe is thought to remain under house arrest in Zimbabwe as the country awaits the military's next move.

The Southern African Development Community regional bloc is holding emergency talks to discuss the situation.

Troops and armoured vehicles were deployed at parliament and other key buildings in the capital Harare on Wednesday.

The ruling ZANU-PF party had become split over who might succeed 93 year-old President Mugabe and the military insisted it was not carrying out a coup - but moving to halt a 'purge'.

70 people died in the Grenfell Tower fire in London in June, according to a final death toll from police.

Officers say a baby was also stillborn after the blaze, so 71 people lost their lives as a result of the disaster.

Two weeks on, air pollution levels in Delhi improve marginally

While the toxic smog cover continues to envelop India's national capital, air quality levels have finally improved after over two weeks- dipping from the 'hazardous' level to 'poor'.

US plans to reverse ban on elephant trophies from Africa

Africa Union Commission chair: military not engaged in "coup" in Zimbabwe

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission says the AU has been assured that the military is not engaged in a coup d'etat in Zimbabwe, and he's expressed optimism that SADC, the Southern African Development Community, can help maintain stability in the country.

Russian Lower House of Parliament approves law aimed at foreign media
